One of the main influences I had around the time I made Fungus Philosopher was the British painter Nigel Cooke, in particular his melancholic depictions of worlds populated by artists and philosophers. Like Cooke I like to offer deeply psychologized landscapes and characters. And as seen in this piece I often place abstractions within the context of more recognizable features to raise questions about context and interpretation.
